What have THEY told you?

2/25/2016

Most of my life I've been told I was too sensitive. When you hear this as a child and everyone else seems to be with the program, it's easy to interpret this as meaning there is something wrong with you. Looking back, I know they were just trying to "toughen" me up so I wouldn't get hurt in life. On a closer look I would have understood THEY were the ones who were afraid.

Where did we get this notion that we should never feel hurt or pain and if we did we were weak, worse yet, that somehow it was a perfectly reasonable goal to aspire to?

For those people who ask me to make them not like food, I've told them "You were born with taste buds so you were designed to enjoy flavors, textures, and the experience of eating." Since we all have feelings (psychopaths excluded) we are also meant to experience these too!

Like any skill, learning how to be with the hurt requires practice and the support of nurturing people around you. Just imagine if you could learn how to move through it, heal, learn, and keep your heart open.

What would your life be like if you did? It is possible! Please feel free to email me back if you would like to learn more about how I can help you.

Weight can be a mine field!

2/18/2016

For some, weight is a mine field, especially for women.  It used to be for me.  I have a long history of weight loss followed by weight gain.  Before attending family, events I was busy figuring out if I was heavier or lighter since the last gathering as my family was the type that would said something.  When someone commented that I looked great, it was when I lost weight, so what I heard was I didn't look great before.  There was also the "you have such a pretty face, if only you lost weight," comment I heard far too many times.  All of this became a source of shame and self hatred.

Have you ever felt the same way?  Is there something you feel shame about?

It could be about your weight, but could be around something else.  According to Brene' Brown, "shame needs three things to grow exponentially in our lives: secrecy, silence, and judgment."  Breaking free from shame takes courage and the willingness to stop being silent.  I assist clients in doing this and it is such an honor to be witness to their transformation.  When they get to the other side of shaming themselves they experience such freedom, freedom they only dreamed of or didn't think could ever happen!

Here's what Kathy said of her experience:

"There are not enough positive words in the English language to express how beneficial the work with Beth has been.  I have been on a diet most of life.  I’ve tried every fad diet in existence and own every book ever published.  Nothing worked long-term.  I saw an ad for Beth and did my research on her credentials, which were impressive and I was desperate.  I met with her, liked her immediately, but remained skeptical.  She will tell you her story which is similar to every overweight person’s story.  Once you start on the path, you may be apprehensive but give it an honest chance.  Beth is a facilitator on your journey and a knowledgeable one because of her background.  You will reap side benefits in other aspects of your life that are amazing when you stop and listen.  I am forever grateful that Beth is in my life and look forward to tomorrow."
What are you looking forward to?Beth

What does DNA, the News and Reality share?

2/11/2016

How do you know what you know and feel?  In other words, where does your reality come from?

Fashion and fitness magazines provide images of how you're "supposed" to look and act.  It could be used, if you want, as a measuring stick for being beautiful and/or successful.

What about "all the news that's fit to print" (the motto of the New York Times)? However, many days it seems that the only news that gets printed is that which focuses on doom and gloom.

But here is something you need to remember----any reality that is generated outside of you is created by someone else, so you need to ask: what guides the reality they are creating?

What about the reality that comes from within, that is based on your own feelings, knowingness, and experiences such as your intuition and insight?  This view of reality is one that you have a say in, where you get to decide if the cup is half empty or half full!

Perception is the name of the game, and truth be known, it all starts from the inside.  In her book Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy, Sarah Ban Breathnach suggests greeting each day by saying, "Thank you ** for the blessings of this wonderful day!" (** if you have a higher power, you can use that name here).  By starting your day in this way, even if at first you don't believe it, with time it will have a positive affect.  This simple greeting has the power to change your perception to one of a full cup, but only if you want it.  I used to see the world as half empty until I greeted my days this way; now I see it overflowing with joy and love.

Now, what about DNA and reality?  I've included below an interesting article on what some studies are pointing to, that previous generation's experience with trauma can be passed on genetically.

Smoking and other bad habits

I don't know about you but time is going quickly by!  This can be a good thing when you're ready for something to be over, but not so great when you want more time.  The passage of time, however, can give you perspective you didn't have before, especially when asking yourself, "Am I where I want to be in my life?".

At the start of anything you can be very excited and energized.  When you need to roll up your sleeves and dig in, maybe not so much.  My mother told me many times as a child that I didn't finish things (if you know about astrology this was a Virgo to an Aries!).

What I've come to realize is we all need to keep the energy going to see anything through!

Since July, 2011 I work-out every day and at the end of the year I accomplish this goal at least 95% of the year.  To keep me energized I work with a personal trainer once a month; she's also a personal friend and this relationship keeps me energized as well.  It's like I have a personal commitment to Jessica as well as to myself.

Instead of criticizing yourself for not following through, start asking yourself what you need, so that you're regularly and consistently energized, renewed, and excited about what you're up to in life.  Then put those ideas into action and notice what happens!

Here's to living your best life!
