A life of echoes

4/29/2016

I'm sharing with you a note someone shared with me.  It takes a look at what happens in our lives as a means of healing what has yet to be fully healed. It's not discounting what happens, it's just helping to creating a new context to view it from. Take a read...

Journey to Love by Simri Singh

I believe we live a life of echoes. And if we look at an experience that's taking place right now, we will see that it's an echo from an experience in childhood. We will see it reoccur every so often if we have not really dealt with the mental body, the emotional body and the energetic body in relation to that experience. So each reoccurrence, or echo, is simply an opportunity to revisit it and heal it. And these relationships that show up to participate in that way, to me they are angels in disguise. People we want to look at as our enemies or people that are wounding us and hurting us, they are actually the ones from a soul level that love us the most because they're willing to be that villain. They help us emerge from that lie that something is wrong or we are deficient or that there is even division or error in the world.

And so it's a beautiful opportunity through relationships to not only see where we have held the discordance within ourselves, but also to discover parts of ourselves by that mirror that appears in front of me so that we can clean and clear that out of ourselves and return to a level of oneness.

Here's to what needs healing.

Is somebody home?

Saturday was my birthday and to celebrate I had friends over for a potluck dinner.  The gathering gave me the opportunity to clean and clear spaces of the house I'd neglected and to breathe new life into them, to reflect on who I am and to have what I enjoy around me.  I made flower arrangements, draped a small table with lace I never use, rearranged plants and put out a picture of me when I was about 2 1/2 years old.

I felt myself visible in own my home

What we experience in our environment we can feel within ourselves.  Many times when a person has issues around food and weight they don't feel at home within themselves.  The goal then becomes to cover up like you're wearing a trench coat so as not to be seen - this is what carrying extra weight on your body does.

How can you let yourself be visible

You have to learn how to become comfortable within yourself,  a journey that takes time.  You'll need to go room to room and clear out the "junk" that's in the way so you can discover what you need, want, and desire in all aspects of your life!  Doing so will help you align yourself from the inside out, so your life reflects you, so you become visible and stay visible
Not sure where to start?

Overwhelmed at the prospect?

Want some help?

Let's talk!

Knowing what you don't know

There's a commercial that used to say: "An educated consumer is our best customer."  Here's an opportunity for you to be an educated consumer about hypnosis, whether become a client or not.

Recently I read an article on WebMD about hypnosis for smoking cessation.  There were points I agreed with and others I did not.  This article defined hypnosis "as an altered state of awareness in which you appear to be asleep or in a trance." A more accurate definition would be an increased state of awareness or concentration.  You can have your eyes closed or open such as when you're in highway hypnosis, talk, are fully in control, or reposition yourself in the chair or recliner!

"Some people believe that when you are hypnotized, you relax and concentrate more, and are more willing to listen to suggestions."  Relaxation is not a sign of being in hypnosis, but it is one of many if you're given suggestions to relax!  To enter a state of hypnosis you have to be willing to listen to and follow suggestions and directions.  You will only accept suggestions and directions that are acceptable to you and you will only do and say in hypnosis what you'd do and say out of hypnosis.  My sons are a perfect example - if hypnosis was mind control they would have made dinner during the week and done the dishes and had the trash out without ever needing reminding;  it never worked out this way!

Aversion techniques were referred to as a popular method to have people stop smoking with suggestions such as "cigarette smoke smells like truck exhaust", it poisons the body, or that smoking will cause the smoker's mouth to feel extremely dry.  The problem is aversion modalities don't work in the long term.  People already know cigarettes poison the body, causes cancer and other lung disease, etc., but continue to smoke anyway.  Instead we at Hypnosis Services of Delaware clear the emotional resonance that fuels the undesirable behavior.  As a recent weight loss client said: "Deal with the emotions, deal with the fat."

Were you aware that the American Medical Association (AMA) "does not have an official position on the use of hypnosis. A position statement regarding the use of the technique for medical and psychological purposes was rescinded by the AMA in 1987."  Hypnosis was approved in September of 1958 and stood for almost 30 years before it was rescinded.  I've been curious as to why; call me skeptical but I wonder with explosion of "alternative medicine" and the rise of Big Pharma (pharmaceutical companies) if it was financially motivated.  Think back to when chiropractors were marginalized and called quacks by the medical community and now many insurance companies cover their services.

The author addressed finding a hypnotist/hypnotherapist saying it "should only be done by someone who has a current license in a health care field, such as medicine, psychiatry, psychology, or nursing."  I disagree and I'm a nurse who would be "qualified".  One's training is more important than being in the health care field.  A colleague told me when at a training for medical and psychological professionals on Irritable Bowel Syndrome how to conduct an hypnotic induction wasn't included, so she and another hypnotist taught the group during a break. This is like not knowing how to start a car and get into gear before driving.  You can't do hypnosis without a person being in the state of hypnosis!

Beware of too-good-to-be true claims or guarantees. Hypnosis does not work for everyone.  This point I absolutely agree with!  Ask questions.  Understand the answers.  You also need to feel comfortable with any practitioner you work with!  Remember - if you ever have questions about hypnosis feel free to go online and schedule your Hypnosis Discovery Session with me, I'm always happy to educate people about this work I love to do!

Here's to your success!

Failing, the other F word

So many times during a Hypnosis Discovery Session, a potential client will say something that indicates on some level, their inability to change a behavior or thought pattern led them to see themselves as a failure. It can also be the reason why they're speaking with me - hypnotists aren't usually on the top of the call list.

Think back to when you were in primary school and for the first time you came up against being graded: A, B, C, D, and F (have you ever wondered what happened to E? Was it too many vowels to contend with?). You had to be taught these letters had another meaning besides being letters of the alphabet. Through your teacher's voice, expression or behavior, or by your parent's response to your report card, you were systematically taught the other meaning of these letters. At some, point an external representation (a letter) became internalized, and caused you to create a judgment of your worthiness and ability to be loveable.

What if you were able to distinguish the difference between the meaning of a letter and who you are?

Having a "bad" or unhealthy habit, behavior or thought isn't about being flawed!  Read this sentence again. Having a "bad" or unhealthy habit, behavior or thought isn't about being flawed! Once you look beyond the surface and stop making yourself wrong then you can find out why you've been doing what's been causing you such distress or discomfort. This is when change, lasting change becomes possible.

When I work with clients I don't "grade" them as flawed, bad, or that something is wrong with them. I know from my work and years of experience there are whys behind every behavior, habit, or thought, and by getting to the cause and clearing the emotional resonance we create the opportunity for change to happen.
