Norm!

If you understood the reference, Cheers to you! If you didn’t, Norm was a character on the TV program ‘Cheers’ that aired back in the mid-1980’s, who people would greet by saying “Norm!” every time he entered the bar. I just had a Norm moment at the local coffee shop when the woman behind the counter knew I drank decaf coffee.

There is something to be said for being known, the connection that’s made even when it’s what you drink as these casual interactions also create community. We as human beings are wired for connection. How much connection we need or want is a matter of preference and can change on your mood and situation and when you’re new somewhere, who you know.

But what if being in social situations make you anxious?

I’ve been asked many times if hypnosis can help with anxiousness or worry and build self-confidence and the answer is yes. I’ve worked with many clients who have “social anxiety” and as a result they now feel more confident and are self assured in social situations and in themselves; the work they did transformed their life! Clients who have had anxiety and depression* have also experienced this change too.
I can assist you or someone you know to transform your life.

I offer personal, one-on-one virtual sessions so you are able to get to the core of what’s triggering you that has you avoid social situations or perhaps overeat, smoke, have ‘bad habits’, feel anxious, worried or just really down. Working virtually actually gives you more flexibility and as I tell clients who laugh when I say – your eyes are closed most of the session, so working over the internet works very well!

So if you or someone you know is ready to feel better (feel free to pass this on to them too!) click on this link and schedule your personal 20 minute complementary phone consultation now. Click on the Discovery Session icon and you will automatically be directed to an online scheduler for a time that is most convenient for you.

Here’s to living well!

Beth

*whenever I work with a client on an issue they have a medical or psychological diagnosis for I require a referral from their medical provider or therapist.

You don’t know what you don’t know!

We don’t know where the pilot is.

These are interesting words to hear when you’ve been sitting on an airplane for 30 minutes waiting for takeoff. The woman sitting next to me was presenting at a conference and was going to miss it. Other passengers chimed in as many of us had connections to make and the telephone number to call and rebook flights was jammed.

After 2 hours and 15 minutes the plane took off.

It wasn’t until we got to Minneapolis, MN that it was explained that the bad storms on the east coast the day before timed out many of the pilots from flying (much better than the story some of us passengers were thinking) leading to many delays on Delta. When my rebooked flight got cancelled I finally gave up and booked a flight for the next morning as I was in need of sleep.

The next day I got to know what I didn’t know the day before – the people I met on this new flight. The conversations were fascinating and covered a wide range of topics. I even got to teach someone EFT as they were terrified of take off and I might be getting a free ticket to a local play being performed here in town. Who knew?

How many times have you not known what you don’t know you don’t know and made yourself wrong for it? Did you judge the circumstances and have a miserable time or were you able to go with it and enjoy the unexpected? Is the cup half full or empty is a great way to think of this – which do you prefer? Interesting enough it all comes down to your perspective on events; if you don’t like what’s going on change how you’re thinking about it. Maybe there are strategies you need to develop, people to rely upon, questions to ask, or boundaries to set and keep.

What then would you know that you didn’t know?

Here’s to pondering!

Who says you can’t go home?

Do you live where you grew up? Perhaps you’ve stayed in one place for a long period of time. The familiar can bring comfort and a sense of ease. Maneuvering about doesn’t require a lot of thought and if there’s traffic you already know alternative routes! This is why you form habits with the purpose of not needing to expend so much energy and time doing familiar tasks or processes but they can limit possibilities when you just do things out of habit and not awareness.

I’ve been in Delaware for 2 weeks and coming back to the place I used to live brought with it a fresh perspective as I’m out of the ‘habit’ of living here. It allowed me to relate to work, events, and relationships differently and with a sense of ease I experience in the Southwest. It has been wonderful!

What if you had a fresh perspective on your life? What might that be like?

You don’t have to take a plane to experience this; you can have your own mini version of this by committing to taking different driving routes to wherever you go for the next few days (a week if you’re adventurous!). Yes, plan for extra time so you’re on time. Since its Spring the trees and plants are blooming and you may get to notice colors you otherwise wouldn’t have; after all this is the point!

I’d love to hear how it goes for you!

Bootstraps, context, and perceptions

4/3/2017

Have you ever heard the saying: “pull yourself up by your bootstraps”? Does it sound like something easy or not? To me it came across as easy to do so, for example, you’re down on your luck? Pull yourself up by your bootstraps! Like a male friend put it – “man up”.

How do you hear it?

Have you ever put on a pair of boots that have bootstraps? I recently bought a pair of cowboy boots with straps and let me tell you the straps are there as you wouldn’t be able to put the boots on without them. These boots are made to be formed fitting and snug. There are devices to help put them on and take them off and personally I’m ready to get the one to take them off as its work getting them off.

What about other sayings you’ve heard that you might not have a context for but don’t realize it?

If you lived in Texas or Montana maybe you’d understand the boot difficulty but in the northeast (or if you don’t ride horses) you could lack the context to appreciate the work involved. When you don’t have the context it is really easy to misunderstand what’s being communicated or like sound bites that are taken out of context and their meaning influenced by whoever created it.

Perceptions are like sound bites. Knowing the context, where they originated from, can help you understand what they’re based on and then whether or not they apply to you now. The subconscious mind is filled with perceptions and relating to them as a sound bite is an easier way to see your perceptions as a context you bring to a situation and not necessarily the situation itself.

Imagine the shift this could make in your life.

Did you know this is how I use hypnosis with clients? By deeply understanding the emotional impact perceptions have on your life and actions you can change reaction patterns (mental, physical, and emotional) that stand in the way of you living your life with more freedom and happiness.

Ready to learn more? We can talk when you set up your personal Discovery Session, it’s easy and you can do it right now by clicking on this link.

To Your Successes!
