Are you ready to be gobsmacked?

10/30/2017

Scratching your head? I did when a friend used the word, but I attributed it to him being from Texas. He, on the other hand, attributed my never having heard the word to the fact that I was from the east coast. If you didn’t catch it, we make fun of each other (quite often). I won’t repeat what he called me when he read this.

Gobsmacked is the British word that means utterly astonished; astounded. I think it’s a great word, gobsmacked, like you can feel the emotion of the word.

What gobsmacks you? Do you ever get gobsmacked? (I’m going to use the word as much as I can!)

Being astonished and astounded can be amazing, can’t it? In that moment your world opens. Wonderment and awe may follow as your life changes. I hear this often from clients, how their personal world shifted, causing them to have more freedom and ease than they can ever remember having.

Are you ready to be gobsmacked, to get back to that place where the ordinary becomes the extraordinary?

Let’s talk.

How do you pack?

Being between worlds is an interesting place to be, and may I say, hard to pack for. Weather is such a wildcard, especially lately, with the hurricanes and tropical storms working their way up the east coast. I brought clothing I could layer while secretly hoping to wear clothing that’s just too warm for Tucson right now.

Learning how to prepare for change is almost an oxymoron, yet a good strategy to cultivate. Imagine what you would pack if you only had one suitcase for varying, yet unknown weather. Expand that to what you would need in your ‘skills set suitcase’ for varying, yet unknown situations. You’d benefit, wouldn’t you, if you were flexible, had options that could work together or separately, and had access to outside resources to tap into.

How do you pack your ‘skills set suitcase’?

If you find you need assistance, think hypnosis. Hypnosis can help you expand your packing list, assist you in handling unknown, unfamiliar, as well as familiar situations, but all with greater clarity and effectiveness. It can also help you travel light, letting go of what you no longer need to take with you.

Are you prepared?

Why do we do this?

Recently, a man interested in dating me asked, “What can I do so you’ll want to go out with me?”

My first reaction was I didn’t want to hurt him. I like him as a friend and spending time with him, but not beyond that. As fast as that reaction came, another immediately followed--why would he think there was anything for him to change about himself? My liking him just as a friend didn’t mean there was anything to fix.

I began from, “I don’t want to hurt you” and straight to, “there’s nothing for you to change, there’s nothing you’re doing wrong.” He pursued, thinking there had to be. It struck a chord in me. I wasn’t going down that path, for him to think there was anything wrong with him. I said what we had, is a difference in what we wanted our relationship to be.

How many times have you thought, because someone had a different view, there was something wrong with you, that you were flawed, and needed to change for them to like or want to be with you? Did you think if you just (fill in the blank), you could make it happen?

You are not flawed. There is nothing wrong with you.

Do you doubt that?

Maybe there are aspects of yourself you’re not content with, that you’d like to change as YOU want a different way of living, feeling, or perceiving. Notice, however, this is in reference to you, not another person! This type of change and transformation comes from a deep place within you, not the surface. You are the reference point, not someone else, who you hope will like you, love you, desire you, or work with you. It’s about YOU feeling this way about yourself.

If there are aspects of yourself you’d like to change, there’s still time to attend one (or all!) of my upcoming events this month, but you’ll have to act now as they start this week and end by October 14th! These are my last Delaware events until next April, 2018 – I plan on enjoying warm winter weather in Arizona. Click here to view my events!

I hope to see you,

Beth

The Cactus, Whisky, and the Stolen Car

I’m not always the sharpest tool in the shed.

While in Sedona, Arizona for a three day training, a group of us went to one of vortexes. There were many prickly pear cacti in the area and I knew you could eat the fruit; you also needed to be very careful of the small thorns protecting it. Doing my best, I took one off a cacti to share with the others. As a result, I ended up with small thorns in my fingers and yes, my tongue. Let me tell you, it’s an interesting feeling having small thorns you can’t remove from one’s mouth! Tried as I could, even scraping a credit card across my tongue and fingers didn’t remove them. While there I met a man who did the same thing so I didn’t feel so…..alone. He, however, had the sense not to eat the fruit. I prefer thinking he and I were adventuresome spirits but I’m not so sure that’s what our companions thought.

Six days later
I still had a thorn in my left index finger. I couldn’t get it out as I’m left handed and didn’t have the coordination needed to remove it with my right hand. I texted a friend and asked if they could help and a few hours later I showed up at their home. With a needle and tweezers, the thorn was finally removed.

What about the whisky? Afterwards I was given a whisky/whiskey tasting and in the process I learned "whisky" is from Scotland and "whiskey" is made from barley and grains. Who knew? But then again you’re talking to a woman who had cacti thorns on her tongue.

I wish I could say my day ended there but alas, it did not.

Later that evening I went to Kohls for the first time since I moved. When I left the store I was unable to find my car! Now I’ve kidded that I wouldn’t know if someone stole my car as many times I don’t remember where I park. I activated the key fob and not a peep. My car was gone! I walked back into the store and reported it to one of the employees who then contacted the manager. While waiting I texted my thorn removal friend in case I needed a ride home. When the manager came over she asked me questions about where I parked; I didn’t understand why. Then I realized what she was asking - this store had two entrances leading to two different parking lots. You guessed it; I parked in the other lot.

Yeah, I’m not always the sharpest tool in the shed but it does make for an interesting life!

Here’s to what makes life interesting!
