Quiet in the house!

When's the last time you laughed, really laughed out loud?  The belly laughing kind where tears stream down your face?

Well Saturday was my turn! I went with a group of friends to see Zootopia, a movie I knew little about. I had the experience of sitting in the front row (it never was on my bucket list so I can't check it off) and I'm grateful it was in one of those reclining chairs. Half of us sat together on the left side of the row, the rest on the right.

I began laughing during the previews. Then the film started and there were funny to hysterical moments that had me laugh and laugh and laugh!  I've included a clip from the scene where I lost it.  I had a good time at the movies but a better time laughing; I didn't know how much I missed it! Now I do laugh, but this kind of laughter, not so often. I tend to be more serious and this experience let me know I need pure laughter every day just like I brush my teeth.

After the film my friends down the row told me they knew it was me laughing and how it started the people behind them laughing too. A man, after hearing me laugh in the corridor, came over and told me how much he loved my laughter, how infectious it was and how it added to the movie! Then a woman chimed in saying the same thing! In another lifetime I would have been mortified to have called such attention to myself, actually I would have been told to quiet down by the grownups around me.

Oh well.

Here's for your laughing pleasure! Please pass it on!

The Prisoner has Escaped!

A new client asked me not to use the "diet" word as it was filled with negative connotations. If you've ever dieted you may feel the same way. Diets can be associated with restriction, deprivation, and the feeling of being held prisoner, waiting for your sentence to be over. When you "escape" from the diet prison (i.e. eating something "bad") you may keep eating and eating until you're recaptured, which is why most people wait for Monday to (re)start a diet.

Then there's shame. Most people with issues around food and eating experience shame about being out of control, usually when they eat carbs or sugars (people don't overeat carrots or celery do they?). People may also feel ashamed about how much they weigh and their body. Hypnosis is a powerful ally in releasing shame and as clients tell me again and again IT IS LIFE TRANSFORMING!

In addition, words matter because the Subconscious Mind is always listening and is very literal in how it interprets information. What do you do when you lose your keys? You look for them until you find them and most likely you get a spare key in case you ever lose them again. When your Subconscious mind hears you're losing weight will want to find it again and then get you a spare! This is why I refer to shedding or releasing the weight.

"Try" is another word that doesn't work. Since he explains it so well I will let Yoda explain why.

Did Shakespeare have it right?

Words.

They have the power to cut like a knife or open our hearts to unbelievable love.  Sometimes it can be the same word only we hear it differently depending upon who's saying it as well as the context. A word said by an acquaintance can have a whole different meaning when said by one's lover, can't it?  The word "lover" may even evoke a variety of responses when read by different people!

But the truth is all meaning starts with us!

Well, it does start with us but it didn't begin with us; your family of origin, the culture and times you grew up in all influence your listening. It's only when you wake up to the meaning you attribute to a word that you actually have the power and not the word.

Time magazine recently highlighted this concept in an article about Mattel, the makers of the Barbie doll. They spent a lot of time choosing what they would call the new Barbie's body types. Being sensitive to cultural consideration, they settled on Curvy, Petite, and Tall, as not to offend any culture, since she is sold all over the world.

Whether on a personal or global scale, what if you took away the power of a word to hurt. It doesn't mean you have to like a word it just means it doesn't have the power to sting.  What if you could listen to others differently, so words no longer inflame but create understanding instead?

Here's to your listening!

The Power of RE

3/4/2016

"THIS IS A GOOD TIME TO ENGAGE IN RE-ACTIVITIES: redoing, revising, revisiting, retooling, rescripting, rethinking, reselecting, or rechecking former projects and relationships. Old partners (in some cases, very old partners), projects, and ideas may return, so we have opportunities to reconsider them. We may still think they are either wonderful or duds, but we will have arrived at those conclusions more contemplatively (which of course sounds more spiritual, so we’ll feel better, no matter how the others feel)."

I received an email from a few weeks back from Christopher Largent. He's referencing an astrological event that has been going on for some time and is affecting many people and how they're feeling.  What I liked most was the concept of "RE-ing" as it fits everyone for anything anytime!

What would you RE?

The process of RE-ing is a great way to look at where you are and what you're doing and most of all exploring if it's working for you and are you happy?

If you have what is called a "bad habit" it's indicating something's amiss in your life and needs your attention.  I read this in Marianne Williamson's book  A Course in Weight Loss: "On your own you might have changed your conscious thinking, but you alone cannot change your subconscious.  And unless your subconscious mind is enrolled in your...efforts, it will find a new way to reconstitute the ("bad habit") regardless of what you do."

We can know something's good for us but it doesn't mean we change.  All the positive affirmations we say, can only go so far as they are filtered through the conscious mind.  And that reconstituting thing - this is why people can gain weight after they stop smoking, because they haven't taken care of what's been driving their smoking!  The drive then finds another vehicle and usually it's something else they put into their mouths like food!

Do you know hypnosis is an incredible and powerful tool to work with the subconscious mind, engaging it in what you want, need or desire?  The process I'm trained in neutralizes the patterns of thinking and behavior that gets you stuck in those "bad habits", clearing the way for living the life you truly want.

But here's something important to know, this process is for who want it, not need it.

Here's to a great beginnings!
