The Danger of Comfort

5/30/2017

One of my clients is going to be unemployed very soon and it’s bringing up fears and uncertainties within them. They experienced unemployment in the past and well remember the financial struggles and difficulty of finding another job. Even though they know people well connected in their job field, they haven’t reached out for assistance, instead they’re waiting until they feel comfortable asking for help.

There is a danger in waiting for something to be comfortable – it may never happen!

Instead you can become cocooned in another type of comfort, your comfort zone, even when it’s a scary place to be, even when the proverbial house is burning.

Here’s what you may not know, the feeling of comfort you seek comes from the experience of being in action. There is no way around it. Numbing yourself whether using food, alcohol, drugs, and other distracters like smoking and “bad” habits, can give you a reprieve, but that’s all they can do. None of those behaviors have the ability to create mastery, the mastery of not being comfortable.

In the doing and in the acknowledging, even when you’re not comfortable, but still going ahead anyway, that’s where you’ll find change. That’s where you change!

I had fears while driving all the way to Tucson alone. I mastered my fear with each mile I drove, each state I traveled though, even when I got lost. Do you know what happened? I recently drove alone to Los Angeles and San Diego and back to Tucson free of those fears even when I got lost on my way home and added 2 hours to my trip.

Is there comfort you’re waiting for until you (fill in the blank)?

The upcoming events I’ve been sharing with you are one way to start stepping out and living more fully even with discomfort. I hope you’ll join us and start mastering what’s there for you to master! Check them out below!
