1. The answer lies within
After 13 years I am still in awe of how the subconscious mind has all the answers you need to change what you do, how you think, and your way of being! The subconscious mind is like a huge filing system and hypnosis gives you the key to access it. The skill of a hypnotist isn't to give you the answers, but to guide you to where you can get them and to assist you in meaningfully processing them.
2. If you imagine it, it will come
Harry Potter is a perfect example of this! When Harry was waiting for his father to perform a Patronus Spell in The Prisoner of Azkaban (SPOILER ALERT) he realized he had seen himself cast it earlier and because of that he knew he could do it now. When you imagine doing something, fully fledged using all of your senses and do it often, it creates neuro-pathways for the behavior. What does that mean? Your body is already familiar with the behavior or response and more easily accomplishes it. Top athletes employ this technique to keep their skills sharp.
3. Two strategies are better than one
I'll add that 3 are sometimes better remembering a tripod is one of the most stable configurations. By using a multiple approach you have more to lean on, so to speak. Clients I work with are taught, in addition to the hypnosis work we do, a self-hypnosis program to use between and after sessions. They also learn about the role of their emotions and how emotions will always trump what we think.
4. Congrats--it's a relapse
Sometimes you fall off the horse and when you do how you get back on the horse teaches you a lot if you let it! Exploring how can let you know why you fell off, how to set yourself up for success next time, and whether additional supports are needed.
Making a relapse into something shameful or wrong stops many people from getting up after a fall. Being kind to yourself will go a long way to achieving your goals!
