So I did.
It was the most relaxing and peaceful time away I've ever had. I spent time not only with Rieko but with her friend, my son and daughter-in-law, and another friend, Jack. I walked the hills of Berkeley, drove the Freeway (I found out my son drives like I do---we talk to the other drivers!), and spent time looking out the window of my bedroom in the morning.
What you might not appreciate is this was only the second time I'd made plane reservations, that going to places I don't know has historically been scary and uncomfortable, and driving in unfamiliar places (let alone the CA freeway!) counts. I didn't even know where I was going once I landed let alone how I was getting there until the day before I left!
What changed?
Me.
I created the intention to travel and go to new places; to do that I'd have to change or I'd have the same life. So I chose instead to be uncomfortable, even scared.
What have I learned?
I love Siri for directions and that driving with others to help with directions is great. That I can ask for and receive help---thank you to the man who showed me how to get my BART ticket (ok, he did it for me) and to Jim for telling me don't have a layover in a snowy place when travelling in winter. I can be with a group of people speaking a language I don't and feel at home, and it's good great to laugh! Oh, and that I have amazing friends and people in my life!
What do you want for yourself and your life this year?
Are you ready to be uncomfortable to fulfill on it?
If not you won't and your life won't change. You can only get the same results when you continue to do the same thing.
Are you ready? Then let's talk!
