3,280 miles - I’m not in Kansas any more

1/30/2017

Thursday, January 19th I was on the road for 11 hours driving all the way to Phoenix. West Texas was incredible with its open vistas and sky! I was a part of the landscape all around me and it was humbling.

After about 6 hours I finally crossed the border into New Mexico and shouted with joy – I was getting closer to my home. Plus I got to see these beautiful license plates (check them out)!

Before leaving New Mexico all traffic was stopped by the Border Patrol; single file you slowed down and the officer flagged you on. Not me.

I was stopped and asked if I was driving alone and all I could think of is “where could anyone fit?” and “can’t you see the suitcase and other items occupying the passenger seat?” I answered yes and to whether I was an American citizen. I don’t know about you but this never happened in Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland or anywhere else on the east coast.

It was then I thought: “I’m not in Kansas anymore!” Border Patrol stops are very common here, especially southern Arizona.

Late morning Saturday I headed to Tucson. My brother drove his car down to help me move in and to bring an air mattress and some chairs (remember, all I brought in terms of furniture was my Nordic Track). My friend Jack drove down too to help. It was still boggling my mind that I was moving into my new home, starting my life here from almost scratch.

When I opened the door I was finally home.

My journey continues as I create the space I want to live in with joy, creativity, and fun. Sometimes feeling the fun has been difficult as everything I do requires more energy, time, and effort as I don’t know how to get from point A to point B. I have no idea the best way to do my shopping, from groceries to household items and office supplies. Thanks to my iPhone’s GPS I don’t get lost just confused at times!

It was Jack who told me that in about 3 months I will know where I’m going just like I did in Delaware and in the meanwhile have fun with it all. I’m taking his wise words and doing my best to do just that. A map of Tucson is next on my list so I can see in my hands the layout of the roads so I have a sense of where I am (or not). I like the GPS but it doesn’t orientate me the same way to my space.

Oh, and I got mail! Guess it’s official I’m here. I also had my first virtual session on Tuesday which was great and have a number of sessions next week too.

I have this wonderful opportunity I’ve created and stepped into and I’m filled with deep gratitude.
